Colour Personal Computer CPC 6128

The CPC 6128 is the last model in the standard series, after this only the +variety of the earlier CPC's were produced, especially for the "CPC dy-hards" but these models were never marketed in The Netherlands.

The CPC 6128 is considerably smaller than it's predecessor but is remarkably heavy for it's size.

The picture shows the German Schneider version that Schneider equipped with standard (Centronics) connectors that are more solid and comply with the strict German certification standards.

The pcb-style connector can suffer from interference and does not meet these standards.

The CPC 6128 comes with 128 kilobytes of memory fitted, like the model name already indicates. As the Z80 processor can only address 64 kilobytes (at one time) CP/M uses this memory through a process called 'bank-switching'.

This process involves the splitting in sections ('banks') of 64 kilobytes and, when required', a system that puts another bank 'in context' and therefore within the range of the 8-bits Zilog Z-80 processor. You had best compare this process to a revolving door.

This model still has a 3" disc drive mounted, the same type as fitted with the 664 and PCW 8256/8512 (for the latter only the A-drive).
