CPC - 464 DDI 3"DISCDRIVE SET

Amstrad made two different disk drives for the Amstrad/Schneider CPC range:
DDI-1: a set consisting of the real DDI-1 (= Disk Drive Interface) and a FD-1 3" disk drive, as well as the CP/M 2.2 license and disk.
This set was for the CPC464 which didn't have a built-in 765 FDC disk controller.
FD-1: a 3" disk drive as secondary disk drive unit for the CPC664, CPC6128, and for the CPC464 with DDI-1
All drives are for use with CF2 Compact Floppy Disc 3" discs.
There was no official external disk drive for the 6128Plus or even the 464Plus. The difference between a CPC664/CPC6128 and a 6128Plus was simply a changed pin-out which can easily be solved by a new plug on the disk drive's cable.
The 464Plus was harder to equip with a disk drive. Although the pin-out of the expansion port was left unchanged, the DDI-1 cannot be used on the 464Plus without modifications.

   CPC WIKI DK`TRONICS SILICON DISC
CPC - DK'TRONICS SILICONDISC
        - OMSCHAKELBAAR >> GEHEUGEN - SILICONDISC
        - SWITCHABLE >>>>> MEMORY - SILICONDISC
The Memory Expansion and Silicon Disc from Dk'tronics are both RAM expansions. The Silicon Disc additionally comes with a ROM which contains RAM-Disc functions.
Dk'tronics produced 2 different Memory Expansions, a 64K and a 256K which were compatible with all (non Plus) CPCs.
The expansions meant that CP/M Plus and CP/M 2.2 (with the use of a utility supplied) could both access a 'massive' 61K TPA.
Silicon Discs
These were intended to be used as RAM disc, made in 64K and 256K versions, too.

   CPC WIKI SYMBIFACE II

ROM-Manager
Under BASIC you can use ROManager BASIC to manage all 32 ROMs of the SYMBiFACE II. It can load/save all 32 or one 16 KB ROM. Further you can copy, move, erase, park, unpark or check ROMs.
The simulated ROMs of the SYMBiFACE II can also be handled by a ROM manager which runs under SymbOS. This tool allows displaying, loading, saving and deleting the 32 x 16K ROMs.
The most comprehensive application for the SYMBiFACE II ROM management "ROManager" runs under FutureOS. It allows you to display the existing ROMs, load or save one or all ROMs, test a ROM, adapt the checksum, copy, paste and delete ROMs etc.

CPC - SYMBIFACE II
          - IDE HARDDISK CONTROLLER
SYMBiFACE II is a multi-function expansion, developed by Dr.Zed, with support from Octoate, Tolkin, TFM and Prodatron. Portions of the design are based on the CPC-IDE prototype. The SYMBiFACE II homepage doesn't seem to allow to buy the hardware, nor does it allow to download schematics. To order a SF2 you can get in contact with the developper Dr.Zed.
CPC SYMBiFACE II provides one solution for connecting a CPC with an IDE hard disc. You can use a master and a slave device.
IDE Features
Supports IDE hard discs with up to 128 GB.
Bigger HDD or CD/DVD drive support possible with drivers.
Simultaneous operation of two hard discs (master and slave) for a total of up to 256 GB on your CPC!
Transfer speed of 162 KByte/s. That's as fast as copying memory inside the CPC with LDIR. In practice (loading FAT16/32 files) the speed is still about 130 KB/s (SymbOS-FAT-driver).
External power supply provided: no extra load for the CPC's internal PSU.
No timing problems: Interrupts don't need to be disabled during the data transfer with the hard disc. The hard disc can operate while you play sound or doing other things with your CPC (multitasking etc.).
Traffic activity display via a LED on the board.
Additional Features
512 KB RAM extension, which is fully compatible with the CPC 6128 and the dk'tronics RAM extension
512 KB rewriteable ROM. You can upload up to 32 ROMs, which are persistent. You can also use the ROM space as an additional RAM extension. ROMs can be switched on or off via switches or via software.
PS/2 mouse connector. This makes it possible to connect wireless and optical mice (PC compatible, therefore inexpensive) to your CPC.
Real time clock, which is fully PC compatible and (as seen on the photo) provides additional 128 byte persistent RAM, which can be used to store config data.

Disc drives from Vortex, with 80 tracks and 720K capacity (704K available).
These are the original drives from Vortex, for use on CPC 464. The hardware supports one or two 80 track drives, additionally a 3" FD-1 can be connected as third drive, ie. unlike most other CPC disk interfaces it supports more than 2 drives. VDOS allocates RAM for only 2 drives though, which of the 3 drives are in-use is selected with |S command.
Vortex Add-ons
Vortex X modul (adding RS232 support to -X drives)
VDOS2.0 (upgrading older drives to VDOS 2.0)
Second drive unit (for upgrading a single -S drive to a dual -D drive).
Vortex Disk Format
Sector numbers are 01h..09h (same as AMSDOS IBM Format, but with a 9th sector). Disks are Double-Sided, Double Density, 80 Tracks, 9 Sectors, blocks are allocated in 4K units. Total capacity is 720K (704K available):
First 9K contain two System Tracks (eg. CP/M Bootstrap)
Next 4K contain directory (see Note)
Next 704K are data (allocated in 4K blocks) (aka 4K clusters)
Last 3K are unused (due to 4K allocation size)
Note: According to the manual, the directory can hold 128 entries under VDOS2.0 (whole 4K used), but only 64 entries under VDOS1.0 (only half of the 4K area used).
The Vortex -Z drives do not seem to include any VDOS ROM (so they do support only normal 40-Track AMSDOS Formats, but NOT the 80-Track Vortex format).
